What would pop music be without MTV?

MTV nowadays doesn't play much music they put on shows like The Hills, The City etc... but before they came along did MTV make or break artists by how much or how little they played their songs?

Do you watch MTV much?

I do watch alot of the music channels on Sky (the digital channels that we have to pay for)

I don't watch MTV at all. You need to pay extra for MTV and I certainly don't care to pay more for something that I'm not going to watch. The music gets enough radio play and if people are looking for something, they can find it on the internet.

Yeah, I think MTV was really only an accent to the radio on pop music. They both played basically the same thing.

MTV exposure certainly helped artists back in the day, but as others said they didn't exactly play unknown artists too often.
